2.34.1 Tail Stock operation
1)
Tail stock operation mode

Tail stock is controlled by servo
motor. The axis name is B-axis.
General traverse control is valid like
speed and position control.
And torque control can be executed
to support workpiece by G300 or
foot switch operation.
B-axis of tail stock has two operation
modes as the followings.
▶ Traverse mode : Speed and position
control is valid. (JOG button, MPG, G00/G01 command)
▶ Thrust mode : Torque control is
valid (Foot Switch, G300 / 301 commanded)

Traverse mode
There are some restrictions in traverse
operation as follows,
- Tail stock thrust should be released.
- Main spindle should be stopped
① Manual reference return
- If the Jog + button are pressed in "REF" mode after
selection of B-axis, B-axis is returned to reference position.
- Traverse speed has F0% or 25% in
operation panel.
② Manual feed traverse
- If the Jog +/- button is pressed in
"JOG" mode after selection of B-axis, B-axis is traversed.
- Traverse speed override has 10% steps
from 0% to 200%. When override is 100%, speed is 1000 mm/min.
③ Manual rapid traverse
- If the Jog +/- button and rapid
button is pressed in "JOG" mode after selection of B-axis, B-axis is
traversed with rapid.
- Traverse speed has F0%, F25% and 100%
when override is 100%, speed is 7000 mm/min.
④ MPG traverse
- If the handle of MPG is turned in
"HANDLE" mode after selection of B-axis.

⑤ Auto feed traverse
- B-axis can be traversed by "G01
Bxxx.xxx Fxxx.xxx" command in auto mode.
- Traverse speed override has 10% steps
from 0% to 200%. The maximum speed is 1000 mm/min.
- Incremental command is not valid.
⑥ Auto rapid traverse.
- B-axis can be traversed rapidly by
"G00 Bxxx.xxx Fxxx.xxx" command in auto mode.
- Traverse speed has F0%, F25% and
100% when override is 100%, speed is 7000 mm/min.
If the tail stock is moved on the thrust
mode or thrust is activated, the general traverse command is not valid.
If general traverse command is issued, the
following alarm is happened at the machine.
Thrust mode will be released by pressing
foot switch or command G301.
NC PS alarm : No.130 “NC AND PMC AXIS ARE CONFLICTED”
PMC alarm : No.2092 “TAILSTOCK COMMAND ALARM”
3) Thrust mode
① Auto command with thrust
G300
B-xxxx. ; (Tail stock is moved to minus direction with
thrust)
G301 ;
(Thrust is released and tail stock keep the position)
Tail stock starts moving to chuck side
with commanded thrust by G300 command.
G300 is finished after the commanded
thrust is activated and tailstock is stop.
- Traverse Speed with thrust : 360mm/min
- Thrust : Thrust can be issued by
"B-xxxx", command unit is kgf.
After G300 command, if the traverse
distance is over 1000mm, the following alarm is happened.
Alarm level of traverse distance can be
set at D2000. (Standard setting value is 100000, unit 0.001mm)
No. 2191 “TORQUE CONTROL COMMAND
ERROR” (Message alarm level)
Tail stock thrust is released by G301
command. Tail stock is changed to general traverse mode.
After G301, tail stock should be
traversed to opposite direction of thrust immediately.
② Manual command with thrust.
There are some restrictions in manual
thrust operation as follows,
- Machine is not under auto running with the
excepting of M00/M01
- Main spindle is under stop with the
exception that M31 is commanded in advance.

Tail stock is moved to chuck side with
commanded thrust by pressing tail stock foot switch.
If the foot switch is taken off, tail
stock is stopped and thrust is activated.
Although foot switch is taken off without
workpiece support, tail stock is stopped on the thrust mode.
If the foot switch is pressed, again,
tail stock is moved to opposite direction and thrust mode is released.
Tail stock keep moving for pressing foot
switch.

There are soft buttons (100kgf~800kgf) on
the bottom of "Tail Stock Thrust Setting Screen". If the any button
is pressed,
Manual thrust value is decided and the
current value is displayed on the 'INPUT THRUST VALUE" window.
Thrust value can be decided by input directly,
too. Thrust input window is activated by pressing right cursor direction button
on MDI. The window color is changed to
yellow, type thrust value on the "INPUT" window.
At that time Thrust value can be input
directly by pressing "INPUT" button on MDI after input thrust value
Caution
1.
There are some difference between real thrust and commanded thrust.
2. The
maximum thrust value .

4) Servo Driven tail stock power setting screen
① Search screen
▶ Press "CUSTOM1” on MDI
keyboard.
▶ Press " 9. TAIL-S"
② Thrust setting
There are soft buttons (100kgf~800kgf) on
the bottom of "Tail Stock Thrust Setting Screen". If the any button
is pressed,
Manual thrust value is decided and the
current value is displayed on the 'INPUT THRUST VALUE" window.
Thrust value can be decided by input
directly, too. Thrust input window is activated by pressing right cursor
direction button
on MDI. The window color is changed to
yellow, type thrust value on the "INPUT" window.
At that time Thrust value can be input
directly by pressing "INPUT" button on MDI after input thrust value
- Puma 2100/2600 Series max.thrust :
800kgf
- Puma 3100 Series max,thrust : 800kgf

③ Status display
B-axis position is displayed during tail
stock is traversed with thrust.
“THRUST” marking is changed from "NG”
to “OK” and X12.7 is changed from "on" to "off" after tail
stock support the workpiece.
If SX74 is turned on before thrust is
released, alarm 2092 is happened to the machine and main spindle is stop.
5) Alarm
① NC alarm
▶ PS ALARM No.130
“NC AND PMC AXIS ARE CONFLICTED”
B-axis moving command was issued on the
traverse mode and thrust mode at the same time.
② PMC alarm
▶ NO.2092
“TAILSTOCK COMMAND ALARM”(FEED HOLD LEVEL ALARM)
B-axis jog traverse command was issued
when thrust is activated. It’s need to command B-axis jog traverse after
release thrust.
SX74 was turned on before thrust is
released, It’s need to check tail stock and sensor connection (X12.7).
▶ NO.2191 “TORQUE
CONTROL COMMAND ERROR”(MESSAGE LEVEL ALARM)
After G300 command, If the traverse
distance is over 1000mm, the following alarm is happened.
Alarm level of traverse distance can be
set at D2000. (Standard setting value is 100000, unit 0.001mm)
6) PARAMETER
① NO.2007 Bit7 , FRCA(#7) Torque
control function is used (1)
② NO.1803
Bit0 TQI,
Within a torque limit, an in-position check is not made(1)
Bit1 TQA,
Within a torque limit, an excessive stop-time/move-time error is Checked (1)
Bit4 TQF, When
torque control is performed by the PMC, follow-up operation is performed (1)
③ NO.8010 (PMC AXIS GROUP SETTING)

Group (G154 to G165) is used.-> B-AXIS (G300, G301, Servo Driven Tail stock)
